Hyperhidrosis Frequently Asked Questions
What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is an abnormally excessive sweating condition, that is not necessarily related to heat or exercise. You may sweat so
much that it soaks through your clothes or drips off your hands. Besides disrupting normal daily activities, this type of heavy sweating can cause social anxiety and embarrassment.
This treatment helps to reduce excess sweating of the underarms. Tiny amounts of botulinum toxin
are injected superficially into the sweat glands. The treatment is relatively pain free and takes 15 minutes to perform.
Results can last from six to nine months. Clients receiving this treatment often report life-changing results. The aim is to help our clients feel less self-conscious, reducing clothing stains and body odour.
How does it work?
Botulinum toxin (Botox®) injections are injected into the axillary (Armpits) which block the signals for perspiration at the sweat glands
and this stops the excessive sweating.
How is the treatment administered?
The treatment involves using very fine needles to inject the product into the relevant areas. It takes from just a few seconds to a few
minutes to complete. The treatment is relatively painless and there is no recovery time required. Ice packs can be used on the area beforehand to help with any discomfort.
Will there be any side effects?
Using Botox® injections to treat hyperhidrosis is a safe, well-established procedure with minimal risk. Common side effects of
injecting Botox include bruising and swelling at the injection site, but these are temporary and should disappear within 48 hours of the
procedure.
